About The Improvement Association

The Improvement Association, based in Emporia, VA, is a non-profit Community Action Agency dedicated to combating poverty and empowering moderate to low-income families in rural Southside Virginia. As a disability/compliance coordinator for their Head Start program, you would be joining a team that works to ensure children with disabilities and their families receive inclusive, high-quality services in compliance with all federal and state regulations.

Responsibilities of a disability/compliance coordinator

  • Implement services: You will assist in implementing educational, health, nutritional, disability, and mental health services to meet Head Start program goals.
  • Serve children with disabilities: You will play a crucial role in ensuring children with disabilities receive high-quality, inclusive services.
  • Empower families: Your work will help empower families, enabling them to navigate systems and advocate for their children’s needs.
  • Ensure compliance: You will ensure that program operations comply with relevant local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Compliance monitoring: Track activities across departments to ensure policies and procedures are followed
  • Grant management: Ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of grant agreements.
  • Regulatory awareness: Stay informed about changes in federal, state, and local regulations that affect the non-profit sector.
  • Administrative duties: Maintain accurate records of all compliance documentation and deadlines, potentially using compliance tracking tools. 
  • Work with management: You will perform duties as necessary to advance the program’s goals, as directed by a supervisor or executive director. 

 

Qualifications and background

The organization seeks a candidate with a strong background in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Social Work, Business, Leadership, or a related field (Master’s preferred). Also has a passion for creating equitable opportunities for all children and requires, ideally, a compliance, risk management, and quality assurance role. Your dedication and expertise will be vital to ensuring all children, regardless of ability, receive the support they need, as well as a meticulous approach to reviewing documentation, policies, and records to identify potential non-compliance within the organization.

Work Environment
