Project Discovery, administered by The Improvement Association, is a college and career readiness program supporting high school students—especially those from low-income families or who are first-generation college-bound. The program empowers students to stay in school and successfully transition to post-secondary education through hands-on guidance, resources, and enrichment activities.
Target Audience:
Students in grades 9–12, with select services available to middle school students.
Core Services Include:
Workshops on study skills, time management, and financial planning
One-on-one support with college admissions and financial aid applications
College campus tours and career exploration activities
Community service projects and culturally enriching events
Proven Outcomes:
Project Discovery has helped students across Virginia graduate, pursue higher education, and become future leaders in their communities.

Project Discovery, led by Program Coordinator Renita Lensey, empowers middle and high school students—especially first-generation and underserved youth—to prepare for life after graduation. Whether students plan to pursue college, the military, or a career, the program helps them set SMART goals, explore opportunities, and build the confidence and skills needed to succeed.
